Weekly Shabbat Message

During their travels through the Wilderness, the Israelites committed two major transgressions. The first was the creation of a golden calf which was a form of idolatry. The second was the report brought back by the spies that Moses sent into the Promised Land. Their report, which we read this Shabbat, caused the people to cry and complain to Moses for having taken them out of Egypt to die in the Wilderness.

Which of these transgressions would we think is worse?

Neurobics

Neurobics is a weekly group which meets at EDRS every Monday at 11am. The purpose of the group is to ‘unlock the secrets of staying young in an ageing society.’

Our methods are simple, and the strategies we teach are based on, “Challenging the Body, Stimulating the Brain and Lifting the Heart.”

Our aim is to manage, postpone, or even eliminate cognitive decline. Neurobics can add years to your life but also, ‘adds LIFE to your years.’

BURIAL RIGHTS through Edgware & District Reform Synagogue

Following the recent Trustees Annual Report and discussion at the Special General Meeting on Monday 22 May we would like to advise all current EDRS members that the burial rights included within the EDRS membership subscription provide cover through the Jewish Joint Burial Society for burial at the Western Cemetery, Cheshunt or cremation at Golders Green Crematorium. This has been the case since 1969 and will continue to be the case after the merger with Hendon Reform Synagogue.

EDRS Community Weekend Away at York

Living north of London as we do, Friday 5th May found Marion and I travelling south to Kings Cross to meet our other 32 EDRS co-adventurers for our trip to York.

Three hours later we passed our home station again while travelling north.

It was Monsieur Hulot’s holiday all over again.  Someone suggested that, on the return journey, we could pull the emergency chord just before our home station and simply jump off!

The 3-day stagecoach journey that we would have experienced 100 years ago was completed by high speed British Rail in some 2 1/2 hours in comfort and conviviality.  For those wanting a fair mix of facilities and price we found that the Hilton Hotel was pitched just right.  Sandra had done her homework well.

New Reception Office

From Monday 13 February our new  reception has been in operation. All visitors, even if you have been a  member for many years and know the building and the people very well, should go first to Reception, sign in and advise who you have come to see or be looked after by our experienced staff in the Reception Office. They will attend to  payments for membership and events, arranging parking for disabled, booking rooms for meetings and any other queries that you have. It is a more convenient place to wait if the person you have come to see is not quite yet available.
