Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen & Women (AJEX)
Our Executive still meet nearly every month on the 1st Monday at 2pm in the Synagogue.
Because of the age and health of our Members we have had to cut down on the number of Social Functions we run , but still arrange a a Music Afternoon, and we also organise an Annual Sweepstake and Raffle which raises Funds for families and Dependants of former Jewish Servicemen.
We also support several Remembrance Marches and Commemorations, and Services, one in Co-operation with the Royal British Legion. We have approximately 260 Members but of course most are over 80 years of age,
and we are having trouble in filling the key Positions. We are still run a programme of teach-ins for school-children, where veterans take Memorabilia and try to explain to children and their parents various aspects of the
War such as Evacuation, Rationing, Community Spirit, and actually fighting for your Country.
We also partake and thoroughly enjoy our Teach-in at your Synagogue with Rabbi Smith and the Bar Mitzvah Class, and Parents, which coincided with our Annual Remembrance Service.
We are determined to try to keep the record of Jewish Participation in the History of this Country, for over 300 years to the forefront, particularly our Proud Services Record, and we are expanding our AJEX Military Museum at Hendon, to cater for the interest shown by Schools and Synagogues and other organisations, and are planning to set it up at the Sternberg Centre We wish to take this opportunity to thank the Synagogue and the Council for their Hospitality, and Co-operation in making us welcome.
